Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer (M&E / Building Services) to support the delivery of key rail infrastructure projects as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) programme. This is a part-time role (3 days per week), shared across 2-3 projects. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in reviewing and coordinating designs, ensuring compliance and engineering quality across M&E systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Review and assess M&E / Building Services design documentation for compliance with project requirements and standards
Collaborate with design teams, contractors, and project managers to ensure accurate and timely delivery of engineering outputs
Support the development and integration of engineering solutions aligned with railway infrastructure standards
Conduct site visits as needed to review installations and interface with stakeholders
Ensure engineering assurance and manage technical risks across multiple concurrent projects
Provide input into project planning, delivery, and progress reporting
Liaise with Network Rail and TRU stakeholders to ensure alignment with wider programme goals
Essential Requirements:
Proven experience as a Project Engineer within the rail sector (M&E / Building Services)
Strong knowledge of rail engineering standards and practices, particularly for stations, depots, or operational buildings
Experience reviewing and coordinating M&E design deliverables
Ability to manage and prioritise workloads across multiple projects
Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
Competent in technical report writing and design assurance processes
Desirable:
Chartered Engineer or working toward chartership
Additional Information:
The role is York-based, with a mix of office and potential site presence
3 days per week (flexibility can be discussed)
