Job overview

A superb opportunity has arisen for an experienced Physiotherapist who is passionate about neurological rehabilitation to join our team, in the role of Clinical Lead Physiotherapist.

The Oxfordshire Stroke Rehabilitation Unit is a 20-bed inpatient unit based on the Abingdon Community Hospital site with access to a therapy gym, kitchen and garden. We provide short term rehabilitation for people post stroke and take a dynamic and innovative approach to evidence-based practice and service development. As part of the role, you will work alongside a specialist multidisciplinary team and provide Clinical Leadership to the OSRU therapy team. Clinical work is a core component of this post, making this a great opportunity for someone who wants to take the next step into a leadership role, whilst retaining clinical duties.

The post holder will work alongside other Clinical Leads within the unit to drive service development work and facilitate ongoing research trials. They will also support Physiotherapy student placements and work experience as required. Delivery of supervision and teaching will be required on a regular basis and flexible working over 7 days should be anticipated.

We would be delighted to discuss this post further with anyone who is interested, and informal visits to the unit are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

To provide highly specialist rehabilitative care and demonstrate exemplar practice, in line with relevant professional and national standards e.g. HCPC and CSP codes of practice, National Stroke Guidelines and within Oxford Health NHS FT Clinical Governance structure.

Undertake specialist neurological assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with highly complex presentations, and use advanced clinical reasoning skills; knowledge of evidence-based practice and advanced expertise.

Determine appropriate rehabilitation plans in line with gold standard stroke care pathways. Promote and utilise locally and nationally recognised outcome measures to evaluate performance.

Support collation and monitoring of performance, implementing corrective action where appropriate and promoting quality service within the resources available.

Provide expert clinical support for complex discharge planning.

Provide day to day management of the Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy workforce.

Ensure trust policies and procedures for good practice in recruitment, appraisal, performance management and other policy areas are followed.

Prioritise workload to meet competing and conflicting demands within the clinical setting and be prepared to adjust to an unpredictable workload on a daily basis.
