Job overview

The Senior Clinical Fellow will work under the supervision of the Consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and will:

1. Provide Registrar level support to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.
2. Participate in the 1:18 ST3+ rota, including on call
3. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers.
4. When not directly supervised, Consultant advice and cover is always available. In case of difficulties of any kind, the post holder will seek the advice of the appropriate consultant.
5. So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the appointee undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.

Main duties of the job

6. This post is 12 months fixed term
7. The post holder will provide Registrar level support to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department.
8. The appointed applicant will participate in the 1:18 ST3+ rota, including on call
9. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives and carers.
10. When not directly supervised, Consultant advice and cover is always available. In case of difficulties of any kind, the post holder will seek the advice of the appropriate consultant.
11. So far as is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties, the appointee undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues.
12. The appointee undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The appointments will be subject to full Occupational Health Clearance and Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check for the successful candidates prior to commencement.

Eligibility

Essential criteria

13. Full GMC registration (GMC Licence to Practice is mandatory before employment commences)
14. Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards in Good Medical Practice
15. Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 competences in Obstetrics and Gynaecology by the start date of the post

Personnel Circumstances

Essential criteria

23. Fit to undertake the role with satisfactory occupational health clearance
24. Satisfactory DBS clearance

Qualifications

Essential criteria

25. MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
26. MRCOG part 1, 2
27. Relevant post graduate qualification (MRCP, MRCS)

Desirable criteria

28. MRCOG part 3
29. Additional relevant clinical experience

Clinical Skills

Essential criteria

30. Excellent all round experience of DGH work
31. Minimum of 3 years experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology
32. Competent to perform instrumental delivery and uncomplicated LSCS & ERPC
33. Ability to work independently, but aware of own limitations

Commitment to Clinical Governance/Improving quality of patient care

Essential criteria

34. Clinical governance: Able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles and elements of clinical governance
35. Audit: evidence of active participation in audit
36. Teaching: evidence of interest and experience in medical student and junior doctor teaching
37. Research: understanding of the principles of research

38. Research skills: Demonstrates understanding of the principles of research, evidence of relevant academic and research achievements
39. Teaching: Publications and Presentations
40. Understanding CPD
