Electrical maintenance assistant

Perform work including activities that are non-routine. Assist with electrical, building services and grounds maintenance within the hospital environment including plantrooms and ward areas, completing planned preventative maintenance and defect dockets. There will be a small amount of assistance with installation works with all trades as necessary, as well as PAT testing.
Undertaking maintenance, repairs, minor improvement and capital work across the Trust and its contracted customers as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedures.
The role will be principally based at the Winchester site, but may be required to work at other sites (including Andover and Basingstoke) depending on service needs.
Job responsibilities
* Assist trade staff and carry out low grade mechanical, electrical and building tasks in accordance with Trust requirements.
* Prepare to work in hazardous areas, taking all safety measures to prevent danger, avoid injury and prevent damage to equipment.
* Carry out work safely, following the appropriate risk assessment at all times.
* Be available to work overtime for reactive and pre-planned maintenance as required by management.
* Attend training courses as required to maintain competence.
* Provide training, technical advice and support to new Maintenance Assistants.
* Use relevant tools and equipment within safety guidelines for completion of works.

Skills & ability
* Knowledge of basic electrical/engineering practices.
* Experience of working in an acute hospital environment.
* A minimum of 2 years experience of electrical/mechanical maintenance work/education.
* Ability to self-manage and work without supervision.
* Adaptable to change.
* Capable of working in a demand-driven service.
* Working to deadlines.
