This is a Research Assistant for the PlAN-AID project, which is a collaboration between the Department of Architecture and Built Environment and School of Computer Science. The project aims to improve the accessibility of floor plan design with generative AI. The project will work with a Nottingham architecture firmGT3.

Start Date: 01/04/2026

End Date: 16/06/2026

Working Hours: No fixed hours - 15 hours per week

Pay Rate: £17.51 per hour

Holiday Pay Rate: £2.11 per hour

Location: UoN, Computer Science Building, Jubilee Campus

Dress Code: Smart Casual

Duties and responsibilities

* Conduct literature research on the latest generative AI for floor plan design
* Evaluate the effectiveness of existing generative AI models for floor plan accessibility assessment.
* Improve floor plan accessibility assessment and generation through prompt engineering and AI pipeline design
* Fine tuning AI models for floorplan accessibility and collected the required training samples.
* Create a user interface for architects (non-technical users)
* Document the details about training data, model, and software.
* Attend weekly project meetings and meetings with external partner, e.g., GT3 Architects.
* Help prepare project documents such as the final report.

Skills and experience

* Proficiency in Python and its machine learning libraries such as PyTorch
* Knowledge and experience with generative AI models, particularly vision-language models.
* Knowledge and experience in prompt engineering and AI workflow design
* Knowledge and experience in model fine tuning
* Knowledge and experience with web scraping (for training data collection)
* Proficiency in user interface development, preferably JavaScript based with libraries such as React.
