The Role
As an Electronics Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in the development, enhancement and lifecycle support of advanced electronic sonar systems. Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you’ll contribute to both new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
1. Designing and developing electronic products to meet defined technical specifications
2. Creating schematics and multi-layer PCB designs, supported by modelling, simulation and validation testing
3. Conducting testing, fault-finding, root cause analysis and repair of existing systems
4. Participating in formal design reviews at key project milestones
5. Producing and maintaining comprehensive product documentation (BoMs, Gerbers, fabrication drawings, assembly guides, test procedures and manuals)
6. Supporting product validation activities, including acoustic measurement and performance verification
7. Collaborating closely with Procurement, Manufacturing, Test and Quality teams
8. Providing technical support to internal teams and international customers (occasional UK and overseas travel required)
9. Liaising with third-party partners during design, prototyping and manufacturing phases
About You
You will be a degree-qualified (or equivalent) Electronics Engineer with a minimum of three years’ experience designing electronic products and embedded PC systems.
You’ll bring hands-on experience in:
10. Mixed signal design incorporating SoC, FPGA, control and logic systems
11. Switching power supplies and analogue amplifier design
12. Isolated systems and high-power transducer driver stages
13. System-level design and validation
Desirable Experience Exposure to the following would be advantageous:
14. C/C++, VHDL and associated development tools (e.g. Git)
15. Altium Designer (schematic capture, PCB layout, SPICE simulation)
16. Communication protocols including SPI, I2C, Ethernet/IP (TCP/UDP/ICMP), RS-232, JTAG, NMEA
17. High-voltage systems (up to 400V DC)
18. MATLAB and digital signal processing techniques
19. Data acquisition systems and DSP methods (filtering, mixing, down-sampling)
20. Use of laboratory test equipment (oscilloscopes, logic analysers, spectrum analysers, power analysers, active loads, etc.)
