Clinical Sister

Ward 16 at Bishop AucklandHospital is a 30 beded Rehabilatation ward which is recruitiung a Band 6Clinical Sister. We are looking forsomeone who has a passion to ensure good clinical practice and a desire toensure a high level of both patient care and patient experience. Thisopportunity will be suitable for an experienced registered nurse who isenthusiastic, motivated and ready to assist managing a team under supervisionof the Ward Manager.

The post holder should effectivelywork within the team, have good communication skills, demonstrate good clincalskills and be able to provide supervision to others.

Ward 16 is a ward that embeds goodmultidisciplinary team work. We have Physiotherapists and OccupationalTherapists based on the ward and a Rehabilatation gym. Our patient group includes those transferredfrom orthopeadic trauma who have had surgical intervention, patients whorequire general rehabilitation following general decline and illness.

Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful candidate will provide leadership, clinical expertise and assistorganisation of the ward.

They will promote patient centredhigh quality evidence based care to patients on the ward, ensuring the patientis central to aspects of care.

Communicate effectively with allthe multi-disciplinary teams.

Provide clinical leadership to agroup of staff within the ward, providing guidance,support and clinicalsupervision..

Directly influence consistentstandards of clinical practice and promote patient focused care.

Contribute to the overall functionof the ward.

Participate in clinical audit andservice improvments.

Deputise for the Ward Manager intheir absence taking on leadership responsibilities.

Manage time, staff and resourceseffectively.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

From April 9th 2025 - Healthcare assistants - You must have a minimum of two yearsof experience working within the NHS as a HCA for the Trust to considersponsorship (we will only consider sponsorship if you meet this criteria andhave a current visa expiring within 3 months)


Job responsibilities

Registered General Nurse with current NMC Registration.

Evidence of relevant academic achievements & evidence ofcontinuous professional development.

Proven ability in teaching others via a teaching andassessment qualification or relevant experience

Experienced in the role of mentor to students and developingthe ward to be an effective learning environment.

Proven effective interpersonal skills with an ability todemonstrate managing people and processes via evidence of clinical experienceat a senior nursing level.

IT skills e.g. Use of the internet to access nursing databases and for report writing.

Evidence of motivating and empowering staff to continuallydevelop themselves

Ability to work flexibly within a multi-disciplinary team

Ability to work under own initiative, demonstrate directionand meet deadlines

Ability to work hours flexibly when service needs require

Knowledge of relevant and current national policies, agendasand directives relating to nursing and health care provision.

Experience of working within a rehabilatation ward.

Experience

* Clinical knowledge of acute nursing
* Literate and articulate
* Good communication Skills
* Evidence of undertaking and developing audits to inform practice
* Knowledge of relevant nursing and health care policies


Statutory Registration

* RGN recognised by NMC


Special Skills & Knowledge

* Current knowledge of professional developments
* Knowledge of safety and governance issues.
* Knowledge of risk management.


Qualifications

* RGN
* Teaching qualification
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
* Accredited or non accredited leadership course.
