General Manager oversees daily operations for UK Exports, Imports, Warehouse, and Transport teams. This person is accountable for delivering exceptional service and ensuring satisfaction for both internal business units and external clients, while maintaining full compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies. In addition, they will champion continuous improvement initiatives to optimise cost structures, enhance service quality, and uphold compliance standards.

How you create impact

1. Lead and manage the UK Exports, Imports Warehouse and Transport Group (functional areas) overseeing employee drivers, import and export staff, warehouse staff, independent contractor activity, and associated Local Service Providers (LSPs).
2. Execute strategic business initiatives aligned with short- and long-term goals developed collaboratively with the Business Unit Leaders and supported by the corporate team.
3. Ensure trade compliance for imports and exports as well as regulatory compliance, licensing, and safe operation practices for all vehicle fleet related activities.
4. Gain deep expertise in the products, services, mission, goals, and strategic plans of all Business Units; integrate overarching vision and strategy into execution.
5. Oversee capital investments, primarily vehicles and facilities and control expenses to support P/L growth and profitability targets across all three Business Units.
6. Track and analyse network performance using tools such as QuickTrac, JIS, and Tableau; implement corrective actions and deliver detailed updates and forecasts.
7. Collaborate with the FSL teams in each Business Unit to establish a process for timely cost entry, cost audit and billing timeliness.
8. Establish and monitor KPIs focused on cost efficiency and service performance for all four key functional areas.
9. Conduct thorough LSP cost and service evaluations for 3rd party operations as well as lead and coordinate LSP and airline procurement with the Business Units and Corporate Team.

What we would like you to bring

10. Proven leadership experience in the industry
11. Experience managing a ‘Road Haulage Operator Licence’ accredited business and individually holding a ‘Level 3 Certificate of Professional Competence for Transport Managers (Road Haulage)’, would be advantageous.
12. Experience working with time and temperature sensitive logistics operations
13. Understanding of Good Distribution Practices
14. Ability to anticipate market trends and translate them into actionable strategies.
15. Proven history of Operational Excellence.
16. Excellent leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
