Package: Competitive Salary + Benefits

At QinetiQ, we’re not just imagining tomorrow; we are creating it. From cutting‑edge defence technology to groundbreaking innovations, our mission is to empower and protect lives.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer your primary responsibility is to design and oversee the integration of Commercial Off‑The‑Shelf (COTS) and in‑house software. Day‑to‑day you’ll implement architectural patterns that ensure seamless integration, scalability, maintainability, and overall system performance.

Your Responsibilities

* Architect and design the integration strategy and solutions for COTS and in‑house software applications.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including developers, engineers and stakeholders, to understand software requirements and define integration needs.
* Conduct thorough analysis of existing software systems, identify integration points, dependencies and potential challenges, and perform performance analysis and optimisation.
* Develop architectural patterns and best practices for integrating COTS and in‑house software, ensuring scalability, flexibility and maintainability.
* Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams during the implementation of integration solutions and collaborate with vendors and third‑party providers to ensure successful integration of COTS into the existing ecosystem.
* Evaluate and select appropriate integration technologies, frameworks and tools based on project requirements and industry best practices, ensuring compliance with architectural standards, guidelines and quality assurance processes.

Essential Experience

* Proven experience as a Software Developer with a focus on software integration, including Python, C#, PowerShell and CI/CD pipelines.
* Experience with team and technical leadership and strong communication and collaboration skills.
* Knowledge of architectural patterns and best practices for software integration (SOA, Microservices, ESB, API design, etc.).
* Strong expertise in designing and implementing integration solutions for COTS and in‑house software.
* Familiarity with containerisation technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, as well as Enterprise IT patterns, orchestration and lifecycle management.
* Experience with VMware products, Software‑Defined Data Centre (SDDC), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Ansible, Terraform and virtualised systems.

Essential Qualifications

* Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

We value difference and do not require a fixed background or education; if you can demonstrate the required level of experience and a willingness to learn, we would like to hear from you.

This role is 37 hours per week based at Bristol with hybrid working patterns available.

Benefits

* Matched contribution pension scheme, with life assurance.
* Generous holiday allowance, with the option to purchase additional days.
* Options to join Health Cash Plan, Private Medical Insurance and Dental Insurance.
* Employee discount portal: Personal Accident Insurance, Travel Insurance, Restaurants, Cinema Tickets, and more.
* Supporting the Armed Forces community by honouring the Armed Forces Covenant and maintaining a Gold Award standard in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.
* Volunteering opportunities – helping charities and local community.
