Are you an ambitious pharmacy technician looking for a new and exciting challenge? This is a rare opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to utilise their management and leadership skills, as they lead and develop dispensary services at The James Cook University Hospital.
The dispensary is a busy, fast paced environment that provides essential dispensing services to the wards, departments, and patients of South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust. You will be responsible for the day to day efficient running of the dispensary, the completion of rotas and the supervision and training of staff.
We are looking to appoint a confident and competent technician who can demonstrate effective leadership skills, and who is looking to progress their career to manage the dynamic and friendly dispensary team. The successful candidate will be provided with all the relevant training and support, as well as provided with ample opportunities to allow personal growth, and career progression.
Responsibilities
* Lead and supervise the dispensary staff to ensure the safe and timely supply of medicines to wards and departments of South Tees NHS Foundation Trust.
* Manage day-to-day running of the dispensary, complete rotas, and provide staff training and development.
* Ensure adherence to operational dispensary Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and contribute to programme maintenance.
* Undertake accurate labelling and dispensing in accordance with SOPs by interpreting prescription charts and ePMA to facilitate safe medicines supply.
* Undertake allocated final accuracy checking (ACT) slots within the dispensary to maintain continuous competency in accurate and safe checking.
* Use the pharmacy computer system to maintain accurate patient records and information regarding supplies.
* Ensure staff complete allocated work to expected standards, including stock checks, expiry date checking, and appropriate storage of medicines, ensuring items are ready for delivery as per transport schedules.
* Have working knowledge and act as a superuser of electronic systems within the dispensary (pharmacy/Trust computer system; pharmacy dispensing robot; Omnicell CD cabinet; prescription tracker; ePMA).
* Provide professional advice and information to patients, relatives, carers, medical and nursing staff regarding prescribed medicines and further supplies.
* Support the implementation of developments within dispensing services.
Qualifications and skills
* Experience as a pharmacy technician with demonstrated leadership and management abilities.
* Effective leadership, with the ability to develop a dynamic and friendly dispensary team.
* Excellent customer service, communication skills, and the ability to liaise confidently with other health care professionals in a hospital setting.
* Strong team player who is flexible to change.
Training and development
The Trust offers Leadership and Improvement Training to all new staff. The leadership development programme and Quality Improvement Programme are designed to support leaders in developing leadership and management skills. Participants are expected to attend these programmes. After completing four and a half days of training, further leadership and improvement training opportunities may be available, including in-house courses and leadership apprenticeships at levels 3, 5 and 7.
