At Canavan Associates Ltd. (CAL), we are a multidisciplinary consultancy of Chartered Town Planners, Registered Architects, and Environmental & Renewable Energy Consultants. Based in Derry/Londonderry, we deliver complex planning and environmental projects across Ireland and Northern Ireland, with a particular focus on renewable energy, and Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
We are now seeking an EIA Consultant to support our Environmental Manager and planning team with a growing workload of EIA projects, particularly for onshore renewable energy projects.
About the Role
This is a mid-level consultancy role for a candidate with solid experience in EIA preparation and coordination. The successful applicant will play a key role in the delivery of EIAs for large-scale renewable energy developments. You will report directly to our Environmental Manager and Senior Planner.
You will:
* Prepare and review EIA screening and scoping reports
* Draft and review Environmental Statement (ES) chapters
* Coordinate and manage inputs from sub-consultants (ecology, hydrology, landscape, heritage, etc.)
* Ensure compliance with NI and ROI planning legislation and EIA regulations
* Liaise with statutory consultees, local planning authorities, and stakeholders
* Attend and contribute to client and project meetings
* Help ensure deliverables are produced on time and to a high standard
What We're Looking For
* A degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or a related field
* 2–5 years' experience in an EIA consultancy or planning role
* Demonstrable experience in producing or contributing to Environmental Statements
* Knowledge of Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland EIA and planning systems (essential)
* Excellent report writing, organisational and communication skills
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines with minimal supervision
Desirable:
* Membership (or working towards membership) of a professional body (RTPI, IEMA, IEEM, etc.)
* GIS skills (QGIS/ArcGIS)
* Experience in renewable energy or infrastructure projects
