Westminster House in West Bletchley is a welcoming residential home for children and young people with learning disabilities. We're seeking compassionate, creative, and dedicated individuals to join our team.

What you'll do:

* Support children and young people with a range of needs including communication challenges, personal care, and medical requirements.
* Encourage independence and help build life experiences in a fun, nurturing environment.
* Work collaboratively within a close-knit team to ensure consistent, high-quality care.
* Take part in multi-agency meetings about care planning.

This is a site-based role.

Interviews for this role will be held on 20 and 21 October 2025.

Role Responsibilities

Make a lasting difference in the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities by joining Milton Keynes City Council. Based at Westminster House in West Bletchley, this is a unique opportunity to work in a creative, fun, and child-centred environment.

Key Responsibilities

Person-Centred Care

Develop and implement detailed individual care plans, ensuring the highest standards of practice in line with legislation and policy.

24/7 Support

Provide round-the-clock advice, guidance, and emotional support to children, young people, and their families.

Effective Communication

Use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication methods tailored to each child's needs, contributing to their safety, wellbeing, and development.

Behavioural Support

Build skills in de-escalation and behaviour management, helping children develop emotional awareness and self-regulation.

Record Keeping

Maintain accurate and timely records to support continuity of care and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.

Regulatory Engagement

Participate in inspections and reviews by internal and external bodies, contributing to a culture of openness and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidate

We're looking for someone who is:

Compassionate and Child-Centred

Hold a Level 3 working with children and young people.

Passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with learning disabilities.

Committed to delivering care that is respectful, nurturing, and tailored to individual needs.

Emotionally Resilient and Patient

Should you be offered the role, as part of the pre-employment checks an Enhanced DBS will be actioned for you (unless you are on the DBS Update Service).

Able to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations.

Skilled in managing behaviours with empathy and consistency.

A Skilled Communicator

Proficient in both verbal and non-verbal communication methods.

Able to build trust and rapport with children, families, and colleagues.

A Team Player

Works collaboratively within a close-knit team to ensure continuity of care.

Willing to be flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the home and its residents.

Organised and Responsible

Maintains accurate records and follows procedures to meet regulatory standards.

Understands the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality.

Committed to Learning and Development

Open to training and professional growth.

Ideally has experience or qualifications in residential childcare, learning disabilities, or related fields (though full training is provided).

Our roles are either designated 'site based' or 'home based'. 'Site based' roles can include up to two days a week working from home whilst 'home based' roles are based at home four days a week. Of course, managers designate which category roles are in based on the needs of the service and the circumstances.
