Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

We have six regional centres – Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.

The Role

The post holder will strategically manage the cloud architecture of NHS 24's applications and systems, by working with internal NHS 24 technical experts and party suppliers to ensure that the application is deployed effectively and supports new and emerging business requirements. As well as act as the lead organisational contact for third party suppliers in relation to the cloud architecture of the NHS 24 infrastructure and application suite.

The post holder will also manage the delivery of changes to the cloud architecture within the NHS 24 application suite for the organisation, exercising associated governance and controls.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design and manages the cloud architecture for NHS 24 systems, working with third party suppliers as appropriate, and also in conjunction with other partner organisations where necessary, e.g. Scottish Ambulance Service.
2. Work with key suppliers and 3rd parties to design and build cloud solutions that will support NHS 24’s key processes and activities, with a focus on effective design, network security and cost & performance optimization.
3. Work closely with key suppliers the post holder will be responsible for the definition and implementation of cloud technology changes within the NHS 24 Application suite.
4. Provide detailed reports to the Head of Clinical Systems Development, Chief Information Officer, Head of ICT Operations, other members of the ICT Management team and Executive Management Team about the Cloud architecture and technologies within NHS 24’s technology landscape.
5. Document and maintain the Cloud technology architecture landscape, when any changes are made the post holder will be responsible for updating architecture landscapes.

Successful Applicant will:

6. Be educated to degree level in an appropriate area and have extensive experience in a related area.
7. Have experience in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), networking, security, automation, and understanding of infrastructure as code (IaC)Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
8. Hold extensive experience of working within the software development lifecycle.
9. Be able to explain technical aspects of the system to non-technical professionals.
10. Have development/maintenance experience with Cloud technologies using different methodologies, including DevOps principles and practices, including CI/CD pipelines.

Benefits

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 7 with a salary ranging from £50,861 to £59,159 Per Annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
