SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary SEMH School, Bournemouth
Full‑time| Monday-Friday | Temp‑to‑Perm | £ per hour
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a nurturing, community‑focused primary school in Bournemouth that supports children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work primarily in a class of up to 8 pupils, supporting the teacher with learning, emotional regulation and positive behaviour for learning. You will help maintain a purposeful classroom environment, build trusting relationships with pupils, and contribute to a team that values collaboration, reflection and shared success. Your role will be central to helping pupils feel safe, understood and ready to learn.
Contract Details
1. Location: Bournemouth
2. Position: SEMH Teaching Assistant
3. Type of Work: Classroom‑based support within a specialist SEMH primary school
4. Start Date: ASAP
5. Contract: Full‑time, Monday-Friday, temp‑to‑perm
6. Pay: £ per hour
7. Hours: Monday-Tuesday: 08:30am – 16:05pm / Wednesday-Friday: 08:30am – 15:15pm
Experience, Training and Qualifications
8. Experience supporting children with SEMH, behavioural needs or additional learning needs
9. Understanding of trauma‑informed practice, emotional regulation and behaviour support
10. GCSEs or equivalent, including English and Maths
11. Confident following learning plans and supporting pupils 1:1 or in small groups
12. Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
13. High levels of professionalism, empathy and emotional intelligence
14. Ability to remain calm, consistent and resilient in challenging situations
15. Understanding of safeguarding, equality and data protection principles
