As an urban greenspace historic park and house the National Trust at Osterley is at the forefront of complimenting public access with conservation. The parkland is managed by a small but dedicated team, to the highest standards for conservation, access, and wider public benefit.
As Area Ranger you’ll be responsible for day-to-day delivery of our land management and operations on property.
Please note the advertised salary is inclusive of the Outer London weighting Allowance, currently £3,315 per annum (pro-rated if you are part time).

What you'll be doing
You’ll support your fellow rangers in undertaking engagement and conservation work.
You’ll play a key role in maintaining excellent standards of presentation and property maintenance, delivering vital compliance work across the estate, and successfully achieving Conservation Performance Indicator targets. You’ll build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants, and neighbouring land managers.
You’ll also be responsible for helping with excellent communication of our conservation work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing, through events, guided walks, and engagement with local communities, so your business ideas will play an important part in the team’s success.

Who we're looking for
Applications from redeployees are assessed against the minimum criteria for the role. In your application, please provide details of how you meet the minimum criteria below:
1. experienced in managing land, nature conservation and access for people, including running small projects and supervising contractors
2. used to developing and running programmes of work to achieve specific goals in conservation or access
3. a strong team player, with a track record in leading and managing staff and volunteers
4. practical and skilled in looking after a range of habitats and landscapes, with willingness to be trained in chainsaw use, tractor driving and towing trailers
5. able to work safely, and take the lead on compliance – including writing risk assessments, and safety and environmental procedures
6. happy to talk – with enthusiasm and commitment – to all kinds of people about the work you do and why it matters
7. a driver, with a full UK licence
Criteria for all other applicants:
8. experienced in managing volunteers and/or staff
9. experienced in relevant land and access management and awareness of working in highly designated areas
10. willingness to be trained to use machinery including brushcutter, tractor, chainsaw, trailer driving (must have a full UK licence)
11. knowledgeable in health and safety requirements and other compliance issues relating to the countryside and visitor activities.
12. customer aware and someone who takes pride on delivering excellent customer service
13. organised and self-motivated, confidently able to manage a demanding workload with competing pulls on your time
14. confident in monitoring budgets and supervising contracts
