Business Support Officer - Children's Finance Support
Location: Hybrid, working from home and onsite at the Civic Centre within Walsall Town Centre
Salary: £13.02 per hour
Contract: Full-time, 6 months
Working Schedule: Monday - Thursday 8.45am until 5.15pm with 1 hour unpaid break and Friday's 8.45am until 4.45pm with 1 hour unpaid break.
About the Role:
Opus People Solutions are recruiting on behalf of Walsall Council who are seeking a diligent and proactive Business Support Officer to join the Business Support team as a Finance Support specialist.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide proactive Business Support functions, including administrative services such as incoming/outgoing post management, records management, and inputting into finance systems and other databases.
2. Arrange meetings, take minutes, and utilize appropriate administrative techniques including diary management and Microsoft Office proficiency.
3. Act as the central point of contact for customers and operational colleagues in the raising, allocation, and completion of jobs.
4. Undertake telephone and reception duties, ensuring high standards of customer care and managing generic inboxes efficiently.
5. Liaise with educational settings to obtain/provide information on pupil status and update records accordingly.
6. Support Access and Achievement teams where trade services are provided.
7. Independently arrange meetings and training courses, coordinate all arrangements, and circulate required paperwork within statutory timescales.
8. Organize and attend meetings and working parties, taking action points/notes and formalizing into appropriate formats for distribution.
9. Transcribe recordings of meetings into minutes and maintain accurate documentation.
10. Provide interview support, greeting candidates, photocopying/scanning key documentation, and assisting with assessment documentation and onboarding processes.
11. Arrange conference and travel bookings for colleagues, including overnight accommodation when necessary.
12. Liaise with educational partners and government agencies to maintain and update records regularly and ensure availability for funding claims.
Requirements:
13. Previous experience in a similar administrative role, preferably within a finance or public sector environment.
14. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, Powerpoint, and other IT skills.
15. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
16. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
17. Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving abilities.
18. Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation.
