Post: Occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner

A nine-month contract or secondment opportunity has arisen for an occupational Therapy Assistant Practitioner to join the Assistive Technology Service at the SMART (Southeast Mobility and Rehabilitation Technology) Centre, Astley Ainslie Hospital, Edinburgh. The SMART Centre (www.smart.scot.nhs.uk) provides highly specialised clinical rehabilitation technology services across the southeast of Scotland.
As part of a dedicated Allied Health Professional(AHP) Therapy team the post holder will be allocated a delegated patient caseload by the qualified AHP and be expected to work independently within the Disabled Living Centre (DLC) assessing the patient’s needs in relation to equipment for daily living.
The post holder will support the qualified AHP staff by taking an active clinical role and providing advice and information in person or on the telephone in relation to equipment and services. The post holder will also be involved in developing the DLC service and participating in the current transformational changes within the Edinburgh Health and Social Care Partnership.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025, this post may require a different level of criminal records check done than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a "regulated role", your appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Please note: As this post is part-time, the salary will be pro-rata.
As from 1/4/26, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. Please note that the pay scale in this advert will not be changing as a result.
