Automation Design Engineer
Salary: £32,000 – £39,000Location: UK (with occasional travel to global manufacturing sites)Employment Type: Full-time, PermanentWorking Hours:
* Monday – Thursday: 08:00 – 17:15
* Friday: 08:00 – 16:15
About the Role
We are seeking an innovative and technically skilled Automation Design Engineer to help shape and develop the next generation of production lines and automated equipment.
You will play a key role in the full project lifecycle — from concept design through to development, build, commissioning, and ongoing improvement. This position offers the opportunity to influence the future of automation both in the UK and across international production facilities.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop high-quality, detailed equipment and system designs using 3D CAD software.
* Conduct research, feasibility studies, and engineering analysis to optimise machine design.
* Produce and maintain accurate documentation, including drawings, design changes, and project updates.
* Prepare costings, including Bills of Materials (BOMs) and associated project data.
* Carry out testing, validation, and performance checks to ensure reliability and compliance.
* Support modifications, improvements, and engineering changes identified during build and commissioning phases.
* Diagnose issues and provide engineering support for existing equipment used both in the UK and within wider global facilities.
About You
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
* Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
* Proven experience in equipment or machinery design/development.
* Strong proficiency in 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo or similar).
* Understanding of industrial automation principles and manufacturing processes.
