About the role
We are looking for two Senior Planning Officers to join our dedicated team on the Isle of Man. This is an exciting time to be working in planning, with a caseload that ranges from householder applications to major infrastructure and regeneration projects. You will shape places and communities, and you’ll often see the impact of your work quickly.
As planners in government, you will have a genuine opportunity to influence and help shape Island‑wide planning policy, including changes to Permitted Development and planning legislation. Your on‑the‑ground experience can directly inform how the planning system evolves.
What you will do
* Work across varied application types, engaging directly with colleagues, politicians, decision‑makers and communities.
* Provide professional judgement and collaborate naturally to deliver high‑quality planning outcomes.
* Support the development and implementation of planning policy and legislation.
* Represent the team in interactions with stakeholders and the public.
What we offer
* A competitive salary that increases each 12 months until you reach the salary maximum.
* A generous annual leave entitlement, a Privilege Day and 10 Bank Holidays; annual leave increases after your first and third year.
* A flexi‑time scheme with accrual of additional time worked.
* Occasional remote working opportunities with prior agreement.
* Two pension arrangements: Isle of Man Government Unified Scheme 2011 or Defined Contribution.
* Access to the Learning, Education and Development training facility exclusive for Public Service employees.
* Discounted access to NSC gym and island swimming pools, plus 1‑to‑1 support programmes and exercise classes.
* Free access to the Government Staff Welfare Service offering counselling, emotional support and signposting.
* Eligibility for an unpaid career break after 3 years’ service.
* Participation in the Isle of Man Public Service Cycle to Work scheme after the first year.
* Access to the Government staff canteen for affordable meals, drinks and snacks.
* Up to £5,000 relocation package (based on receipts).
