Job Description
The Energy & COMAH team is recruiting a fixed‑term role, up to 2 years, for a senior adviser experienced in regulating energy sectors (combustion plants, waste incineration, refineries). The role supports the Environment Agency’s strategy to decarbonise the UK energy sector.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert support and technical leadership, offering advice, guidance and training to internal teams.
* Develop strategy for the energy sectors and produce tools to regulate, support development and deliver environmental outcomes.
* Commission and manage external research projects where needed.
* Work closely with internal and external stakeholders such as Defra, DESNZ, trade associations and other key industry players.
* Respond to incidents and provide business continuity support during an incident.
Qualifications
* Relevant technical and regulatory knowledge, and experience of the work area for the role in question, gained by working within and/or regulating relevant processes.
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage others to consider diversity issues in their work.
* Ability to build and maintain good relationships with colleagues, operators, partner regulators, government, trade bodies and academia.
* Teamworking skills – work cooperatively as part of a team to achieve common goals.
