About the Role
We’re looking for a friendly, skilled, and learner-focused Support Tutor to join our Software Development Bootcamp team in Brighton.
This 12-week programme trains early-career developers using real briefs, live code reviews, and collaborative project sprints. You’ll work closely with our Lead Tutor (Pete) to deliver energetic, supportive sessions at Plus X Brighton — supporting up to 24 learners from Brighton and West Sussex.
This is a hands-on, people-first role. You’ll help learners overcome blockers, grow in confidence, and stay motivated — acting as a coach, sounding board, and technical co-pilot. You’ll also play a key role in shaping learner culture, helping build an inclusive and collaborative cohort experience.
Whether you’re a bootcamp grad, a self-taught developer, or a junior dev with solid React skills and great people energy — this role could be for you. We’re not expecting teaching experience. We’ll give you full onboarding, CPD support, and the chance to grow into a Lead Tutor role if that’s a path you’re excited about.
What You’ll Do
1. In the Classroom (Tuesdays & Thursdays)
* Support live delivery at Plus X Brighton alongside our Lead Tutor
* Guide learners through practical challenges, sprints, and code walkthroughs
* Offer real-time support via Zoom, Slack, GitHub, and Google tools
* Create a welcoming and collaborative learning environment
2. Coach & Support Learners
* Run 1:1 check-ins to support confidence, pacing, and progress
* Help unblock technical issues with clear, calm guidance
* Support pair programming and peer coaching
* Reinforce inclusive behaviours and community values
3. Help Learners Progress
* Give constructive feedback on GitHub submissions and Codecademy tasks
* Support capstone project development and final presentations
* Help learners refine their CVs, GitHub profiles, and portfolios
4. Contribute to the Bootcamp Team
* Join weekly team check-ins and share learner insights
* Assist with employer panels, guest sessions, and demo day
* Help improve the curriculum by feeding back on what’s working
* Celebrate learner milestones and contribute to a positive team culture
Future Opportunities
This role is a great fit for someone looking to grow into tech education, mentoring, or coaching. As we expand our bootcamps, there’ll be opportunities to:
* Progress into a Lead Tutor position
* Co-design curriculum content with industry partners
* Access mentoring, CPD and a funded teaching qualification
What We’re Looking For
Essential
* Strong front-end skills: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Git/GitHub, and React
* Confident communicator with great people skills
* Calm, reliable, and proactive in supporting learners
* Familiar with Zoom, Slack, Google Workspace, and collaborative coding tools
* Excited to support others, build community, and help people thrive
Desirable
* Experience mentoring juniors, bootcamp peers, or learners
* Familiarity with Agile, sprint workflows, or client projects
* Portfolio of projects or lived bootcamp experience
* Interest in tech education or facilitation as a future path
Other Info
* You must be able to attend in-person sessions in Brighton weekly
* This role requires an enhanced DBS check
* All staff complete onboarding and safeguarding training before delivery
* We actively encourage applications from groups underrepresented in tech, including women, Black, Asian and minority ethnic applicants, and neurodivergent individuals.
