DP World is seeking an Import Operator to manage and coordinate ocean freight import operations from origin to final delivery. This role ensures timely, efficient, and compliant movement of goods while maintaining high standards of customer service and operational excellence.
The ideal candidate will have experience in ocean freight imports, strong communication and problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to logistics coordination.

About the Role
The Import Operator will contribute to the team by:
* Coordinating and monitoring inbound ocean freight shipments from booking through to final delivery.
* Preparing and processing all required documentation, including bills of lading, arrival notices, customs clearance paperwork, and delivery orders.
* Communicating effectively with agents, shipping lines, freight forwarders, customs brokers, delivery points, and customers.
* Tracking shipments and proactively managing exceptions and delays.
* Submitting accurate import declarations to HMRC via the Customs Declaration Service (CDS).
* Verifying and processing supplier invoices.
* Maintaining accurate shipment records and updating internal systems.
* Resolving discrepancies related to shipments, documentation, or billing.
* Liaising with internal teams (sales, transport) to support operational flow.
* Delivering excellent customer service and providing timely status updates.
* Ensuring compliance with UK import regulations and internal procedures.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
* GCSEs (Level 2 or equivalent) required.
* A degree in Logistics, International Trade, or Supply Chain is an advantage.
* BIFA IFF Apprenticeship or other freight-related qualifications preferred.
Experience
* Minimum 3 years in ocean freight import operations, ideally within freight forwarding or logistics.
* Experience with both LCL (Less than Container Load) and FCL (Full Container Load) shipments.
Skills
* Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
* High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
* Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge
* Solid understanding of INCOTERMS, ocean freight documentation, and UK customs import regulations including CDS.
* Familiarity with customs processes and tariff classification.
* Experience using logistics systems such as CNS/Destin8 and ASM Sequoia.
