Role Title: Social Media Officer Salary: £26,000 per annum Contract: 12 month fixed-term contract Location: Manchester (hybrid working available) About British Cycling British Cycling exists to bring the joy of cycling to everyone. We have embarked on an exciting new journey, with a modernised commercial and events offering grounded in social impact and storytelling, harnessing the spotlight and inspiration of our athlete’s performance on the world stage, and our growing portfolio of major events. We are working towards our three key priorities outlined in our strategy ; to support and grow the sport to make cycling more inclusive and accessible, to lead on the world stage by winning and winning well, and to drive social impact by tackling inequalities through providing opportunities. Who are we? We represent a community of more than 140,000 loyal members and the 27 million who ride a bike nationwide – whether they’re racing, riding for fun, getting from A to B or competing for medals with the Great Britain Cycling Team. The Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Women and the Lloyds Bank Tour of Britain Men are the biggest free to watch sporting events in Britain, bringing with them £33.3 million of direct economic impact, spreading the joy of cycling and creating positive social impact through communities across the country. Sitting in our Brand and Engagement Directorate, our Marketing and Content team passionately delivers work to increase our reach and relevance, telling stories about our events, members, programmes and impact, elevating the profile of our work. Social Media Officer Are you ready to help shape the voice and presence of British Cycling online? We’re looking for a Social Media Officer to support the delivery of our multi-channel social media plans across our three branded accounts; British Cycling, Lloyds Tour of Britain, and the Great Britain Cycling Team. From inspiring people to ride their bikes, to building excitement around Britain’s biggest races, and celebrating the achievements of the nation’s best riders – you’ll play a key role in bringing our sport to life digitally. At the heart of this role is storytelling and community management with real social impact. You’ll help deliver British Cycling’s strategy to get more people on bikes by creating and sharing content that inspires participation, celebrates grassroots stories, and connects communities. Through the Lloyds Tour of Britain, you’ll bring the drama and excitement of Britain’s biggest races to life, while with the Great Britain Cycling Team, you’ll showcase the performances that inspire the next generation. Your work will shape how cycling is seen, shared, and celebrated across the country. About you You thrive as part of a creative, fast-paced team, building positive relationships with colleagues, riders, fans, and external partners. You might be at the start of your professional career, but you bring a proactive, can-do attitude and a hunger to learn. You’ve got proven skills in social media content creation – whether it’s writing captions, creating carousels, editing reels, or designing quick-turnaround graphics. You’re confident in community management: knowing how to engage audiences, answer questions, and handle sensitive topics with care. Knowledge of cycling is a bonus – but more important is your drive to find those “gold dust” content opportunities and turn them into thumb-stopping posts that people want to share. What will you be doing? Supporting the Creative Social Manager on content planning, production, and publishing across British Cycling, Tour of Britain, and Great Britain Cycling Team channels. Helping shape and implement social media plans that balance three distinct brand voices: community, event, and elite sport. Creating content that engages and grows audiences – from graphics and video to captions and stories – ensuring consistency of tone and style. Leading on community management, actively monitoring and driving conversations, responding to comments, and fostering positive online engagement. Using analytics and reporting tools to feedback on performance and make data-led recommendations. Contributing ideas for new features, formats, and campaigns, keeping pace with the latest social media and digital trends. Supporting live event coverage, working flexibly across some evenings and weekends (with time off in lieu). What are the perks?
