Overview

Job summary: The advertised job is an exciting development to join the Urology Nurse Specialist Team. The successful candidates will join an established Urological Cancer/Benign team. We are a highly motivated cohesive team that has formed from the merger between the Royal Liverpool and Aintree University Hospital Urology departments.


Responsibilities

* Deliver nurse-led telephone assessment clinics and manage patients through the Clinical Pathways including diagnostic imaging, biopsies and diagnosis.
* Work with the existing team to reconfigure and improve our urology service across Merseyside following the merger between the two hospitals.
* Mentor and support colleagues; demonstrate ability to work in a team as well as autonomously; communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and families.

Job responsibilities

* Perform specialist personalised assessment and higher level discussion of patients’ holistic needs, leading to personalised care planning and evaluation of care delivery using advanced clinical knowledge and skills.
* Demonstrate higher level clinical care by managing a patient caseload with expert assessment, planning and evaluation.
* Coordinate and manage nurse-led clinics within the speciality.
* Contribute to a multi-professional approach in the management of patients, including ongoing care needs and discharge arrangements, with access to community cancer support.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with patients and carers/relatives.
* Support patients and families and ensure they receive the information to self-manage and participate in their care.
* Recognise changes in patients’ condition requiring intervention and case manage/refer as appropriate.
* Support and encourage the multi-disciplinary team with new models of case management.
* Lead the specialist nursing contribution to the service and collaborate with lead clinicians and senior nursing leadership to ensure high standards of care.
* Work with the Matron to promote the development of nurses.

* Essential: Registered Nurse / Midwife
* Essential: Post-basic specialist Qualification relevant to specialty

Experience

* Essential: Demonstrable post-registration experience
