Key Responsibilities
As a Programme Manager at SYMCA, you will manage the delivery of high-impact investment programmes across South Yorkshire. You will ensure a consistent, high-quality approach to programme management, acting as the key liaison between internal teams, external delivery agents, and compliance functions. Your work will directly support the region’s economic growth and development by enabling the successful delivery of strategic initiatives. These roles will particularly focus on the housing programme and the delivery of a corporate programme of priority projects.
Key responsibilities include:
* Develop and maintain a robust programme management framework for consistent delivery.
* Monitor programme progress and collaborate with relevant teams to mitigate risks.
* Support delivery agents in project development and ensure high-quality business cases.
* Track and report on programme benefits and outcomes throughout the lifecycle.
* Provide expert advice and coaching on programme and project delivery.
* Conduct regular programme reviews and support change management processes.
* Ensure alignment of controls with the programme management framework.
* Produce reports and updates for senior stakeholders and governance boards.
* Manage and support a Programme Management Officer, fostering a high-performing team.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
You’ll be an experienced Programme Manager with a strong track record of delivering complex, multi-stakeholder programmes. You will be highly organised, proactive, and capable of working across organisational boundaries to drive progress and ensure high standards. You’ll bring a collaborative mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to influence and support both internal teams and external partners. Your approach will be solutions-focused, with a commitment to continuous improvement and delivering meaningful outcomes for the South Yorkshire region.
* Proven experience in a Programme Management Office, managing multiple programmes.
* Strong understanding of programme planning, monitoring, and control techniques.
* Excellent communication and documentation skills for diverse audiences.
* High numeracy and commercial awareness with business case development experience.
* Strong problem-solving, organisational, and time management skills.
* Experience working with senior stakeholders, including elected members and executives within a political environment.
* Familiarity with thematic areas such as Transport, Business Growth, or Housing & Infrastructure.
* Knowledge of MSP, PRINCE2, and the funding environment of Combined Authorities.
* Understanding of budgeting and resource allocation procedures.
