Offer description

We are looking for a Deputy Chief Operating Officer who is passionate about team working and providing the best possible care for patients. You will have a vital role in the effective day-to-day running of operational and clinical services across our hospitals as well as using your expertise and experience in clinical service transformation to lead improvement in the urgent and emergency care services we provide. An experienced colleague with great leadership skills, you will be passionate about valuing and collaborating with your colleagues and putting patients at the heart of everything we do. Our hospital sites include Ashford with its high speed trains to St Pancras, historic Canterbury and the lively coastal town of Margate.

This is a great opportunity to join our first-class team and make a difference and will give aspiring Board Directors a fantastic opportunity to develop in a dynamic, large-scale organisation.

Deputise for the Chief Operating Officer as required, including in the Trust executive team and at Trust Board.

Be a subject matter expert to the executive team for operational delivery for urgent and emergency care (UEC) and operational resilience and response.

Direct a programme of UEC improvement across the Trust, engaging the multi-professional clinical and non-clinical workforce to yield improvements in key operational deliverables and elevating the experience and outcome for patients seeking urgent and emergency care and for staff delivering care to these patients.

Lead and direct the Trust’s length of stay reduction programme.

Lead and direct the Trust’s improving outpatients programme.

Lead and direct day to day operational response and resilience across the Trust, ensuring appropriate processes, strategies and tactical plans are in place to deliver safe and effective care in all our acute and urgent care environments.

Ensure appropriate control systems are in place to effectively manage and respond to the emergent situation on any given day.

Lead and direct a development programme for operational managers, ensuring our operational teams can evidence achievement and compliance against a set of core competencies commensurate with their role that aligns with the Trust’s values and strategic objectives.

We are one of the largest hospital trusts in England, with five hospitals and community clinics serving a local population of around 800,000 people. Our vision is 'great healthcare from great people'. Everything we do is guided by our values: 'People feel cared for, safe, respected and confident that we are making a difference’. We have a new way of working at East Kent Hospitals, called 'We care'. It's about empowering frontline staff to lead improvements day-to-day. We're looking for compassionate people to be part of our improvement journey for the patients, families and carers we care for every day.

Please note that if you require a Certificate of Sponsorship to work in the UK you must declare this on your application form, even if you currently have a certificate of sponsorship or a work permit for another role and are already working in the country. Please note we are only able to sponsor candidates on a Skilled Worker Visa applying for roles Band 5 and above.
