Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and enthusiastic nurse to join Richard Wells Ward Nursing Team at Bedford Hospital. We are looking for a reliable and motivated Staff nurse to join our team. A proven record and evidence of CPD would be an advantage. The applicant will have energy, commitment and the desire to develop themselves and other nurses in this particular area of healthcare. The role involves clinical input ensuring that high quality standards are set out and to maintain a high standard of holistic, quality care within a multi-disciplinary setting. The applicant will be expected to demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to sensitively manage change. The individual will also need to provide evidence of continuous professional development.

Responsibilities

* The post-holder is responsible for direct clinical care for individual patients and groups of patients within their area of work. This includes the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care from admission to discharge.
* The post holder is expected to take charge of a ward, following an agreed development period and also be responsible for staff and resources in the absence of the ward manager or deputy.
* The post holder is expected to supervise and teach qualified and unqualified staff, including pre and post registration students.
* The post holder will be required to work in rotation in all ward areas within the division of surgery and anaesthetics for clinical development or service needs, including allocation to the admission and discharge facility. The post holder will be required to work shifts throughout the 24 hour period.
* Maintain accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
* Communicate with patients and relatives in a sensitive manner, providing information regarding care and progress as required.
* Liaise with the multidisciplinary team to ensure clinical care is optimised from admission to discharge.
* Facilitate discharge of patients to enable safe, appropriate and timely discharge with suitable ongoing arrangements for care needs.
* Communicate effectively with the matron, bed management team and discharge coordinators to optimise use of inpatient beds.


Qualifications and skills

* Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD) and energy to develop themselves and others in the area of healthcare.
* Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to sensitively manage change.
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team and ability to document care accurately.

Additional information

Richard Wells Ward is a 27 bedded fully functional ward with surgical patients largely focused on colorectal, vascular, breast, upper gastrointestinal and intestine, trauma and orthopaedics and plastics.

Ensure that self and other professionals adhere to infection control best practice and planning and delivering care to patients.

Maintain accurate and clear documentation of all nursing care and communication with the multidisciplinary team.
