SEND Teacher – September Start – Specialist Secondary School – Long-Term Opportunity
Your NewpanyAn outstanding opportunity has arisen for a passionate and dedicated SEND teacher to join a highly respected special secondary school in the Rochdale area. This well-established school provides exceptional education and support for pupils aged 11 to 19 with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), including moderate learning difficulties (MLD), autism spectrum conditions (ASC), speech, language andmunication needs (SLCN), andplex learning profiles. The school is known for its inclusive ethos, high staff-to-student ratio, and a broad, creative curriculum that promotes academic achievement, life skills, and emotional development. With a strong leadership team and a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach, the school offers a nurturing and structured environment where every student is supported to thrive. This role is ideal for primary or secondary-trained teachers with a passion for inclusive education. The school also wees applications from ECTs with relevant experience or placements in SEND settings.Your New JobStarting in September, this is a full-time SEND teaching role on a temporary basis, with a strong likelihood of bing permanent for the right candidate. You will be responsible for delivering high-quality, differentiated teaching to small groups of students with diverse learning needs across Key Stages 3 and 4, with some post-16 learners. Key responsibilities include:
1. Planning and delivering engaging, accessible lessons tailored to individual EHCPs.
2. Creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment that supports emotional wellbeing and academic progress.
3. Collaborating with teaching assistants, therapists, and the wider pastoral team.
4. Supporting pupils’munication, independence, and personal development.
What You'll Need to Succeed
5. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS or QTLS).
6. Experience working with children or young people with SEND, either in a mainstream or specialist setting.
7. A creative, flexible, and nurturing approach to teaching and learning.
8. Excellentmunication and teamwork skills.
9. A DBS on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one through Hays.
10. Experience with Makaton, PECS, or othermunication strategies is desirable but not essential.
