Job Summary
As a Planning and Assurance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping, coordinating, and assuring delivery across the Blood Supply and Plasma for Medicines portfolio. You will design and lead governance, reporting and performance frameworks that give senior leaders the insight they need to make confident, timely decisions. Working closely with the Head of Portfolio, you’ll translate strategic priorities into actionable plans, provide expert analysis, and ensure that risks, resources, and benefits are clearly understood at every level. This is a highly influential position where your leadership, collaboration skills and ability to bring clarity to complex information will directly support the safe, efficient and effective delivery of services that help save and improve lives.
Band 8a Plasma for Medicines
Main Duties of the role
* Lead the design and operation of portfolio governance and assurance frameworks, ensuring compliance with NHSBT and CPMO standards.
* Oversee the collection, analysis and reporting of delivery, risk, benefits and performance data.
* Translate strategic priorities into integrated portfolio level delivery plans.
* Provide authoritative insight and advice to senior leaders on delivery confidence, risk exposure and resource constraints.
* Operate and enhance portfolio reporting systems including PowerApp and Power BI dashboards.
* Establish and run portfolio level decision forums, including change boards and review boards.
* Lead portfolio assurance activity, including health checks, deep dives and readiness reviews.
* Produce high quality portfolio reports and briefings for senior stakeholders, up to Executive and Board level.
* Line manage the Planning and Assurance team, building capability in governance, reporting and analysis.
* Foster a culture of consistency, transparency and continuous improvement across portfolio controls.
About You
Experience and Knowledge
* Strong organisational and planning skills, able to manage multiple priorities.
* Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage diverse senior stakeholders.
* Ability to analyse complex data and produce clear, concise reports and dashboards.
* Significant experience operating a PMO within complex or transformational programmes.
* Proven ability to manage governance processes, reporting cycles and programme controls.
Qualifications And Training
* Educated to Master’s level in a relevant subject, or equivalent level experience.
* P3O qualification.
* PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Training or extensive experience with Power BI and data visualisation tools.
