This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a GPpractice within Greater Derby PCN and become a key member of the practicemedicines management team.

The successful candidate will support safe and effective useof medicines for patients through discharge reconciliation, repeat prescribingsystems, patient-facing consultations and audit work, working closely with GPsand Clinical Pharmacists.

You will receive structured supervision and be supported todevelop your role through the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway (if not already completed).


Main duties of the job

Working as part of Mickleover Medical Centre's Medicines Managementteam within Greater Derby PCN, and under the supervision of the Practice LeadPharmacist and GPs, the Pharmacy Technician will play a key role in improvingpatient safety, medicines optimisation and prescribing processes for thepractice population.

Although employed by the practice, the post-holder will workclosely with the wider Greater Derby PCN pharmacy team to share learning, alignways of working and support system-wide priorities.

I am Dr Ben Mills, one of four partners at Mickleover Medical Centre.

We care for around 13,100 patients in the leafy suburbs of Derby, largely an older demographic. Our Practice Manager, Emma, leads an outstanding administrative team that filters normal results and routine correspondence so clinicians can focus on patient care.

You will work alongside, three other Partners, five reliable Salaried Doctors, two Nurse Practitioners, two Practice Nurses, a Health Care Assistant, two PCN Pharmacists, a First Contact Physio and a Care Coordinator. We are also human outside work: cyclists, bakers, hikers, kickboxers and even bell ringers. Not got a dog? We will lend you one.

Job responsibilities

To work as part of Mickleover Medical Centre medicinesmanagement team within Greater Derby PCN, supporting the safe, effective andcost-effective use of medicines for the practice population.

The post-holder will be employed by the practice and willundertake medicines optimisation, discharge reconciliation, repeat prescribingsupport, audit activity and patient-facing consultations under the supervisionof the Practice Lead Pharmacist and GPs, in line with local protocols,professional standards and governance arrangements.

The role is supported by structured supervision anddevelopment through the CPPE Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway.


Person Specification


Qualifications

* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
* Qualified to NVQ level 3
* Completion of CPPE Primary Care modules


Experience

* Experience working in community or hospital pharmacy.
* Working within SOPs and governance frameworks.
* Understanding of medicines management and optimisation.
* Knowledge of pharmacy law and ethics.
* Awareness of NHS priorities and prescribing policy.
* Experience in GP practice or PCN setting.
* Audit or quality improvement work.
* Knowledge of QOF, QIPP and ARRS frameworks.


Skills and Competencies

* IT literate and able to use clinical systems.
* Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to escalate risk appropriately.
* Understanding of data protection and confidentiality.
* Experience analysing prescribing data.
* Influencing and negotiation skills.
