Job Summary
The Senior HCA / Senior Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is part of the multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients. Support and supervision is provided by a Registered Professional. The Senior HCA/ Senior Healthcare Support Worker carries out a range of patient care tasks and duties to enable the team to provide an effective and efficient service within Acute hospital settings.
Key Responsibilities
* Competently perform the necessary aspects of care for patients.
* Ensure effective delivery of clinical care and maintain acceptable standards.
* Follow Trust policies and provide a safe, person‑centred environment.
* Participate in personal and practice development activities.
* Demonstrate care and compassion to patients, carers and relatives.
* Conduct a range of patient care tasks as directed by a Registered Professional.
* Report observed changes in patients' physical and psychological needs.
* Perform tests such as urinalysis, blood pressure, pregnancy testing, patient observations and other routine measurements.
* Carry out wound observation and dressing, removal of peripheral cannula, stoma bag changing and report concerns.
* Assist patients with activities of daily living (feeding, bathing, repositioning) under supervision.
* Support the registered professional and other clinical team members as required.
* Maintain and build good relationships with team colleagues and other disciplines to maximize patient care.
* Maintain patient confidentiality at all times and follow information governance policies.
* Keep accurate records, including fluid intake charts, to ensure effective communication.
* Adhere to Trust, ward and unit procedures for supplies and equipment use.
* Perform housekeeping and stock control, maintaining equipment in good working order.
* Engage in personal career development plans and continue learning.
* Follow Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
* Use range of equipment such as patient trolleys, beds, moving & handling equipment, patient positioning aids, glucometer, blood gas machine, bloodbank fridge, drip stands, and peak flow meter.
Eligibility Criteria
* Hold a Care Certificate issued by an NHS provider organisation (Care Certificate from NHS England or an online training provider is not acceptable).
* OR have completed an NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care in a UK college.
Person Specification – Qualifications
* Vocational qualification at Level III or equivalent experience gained on the job.
* Care Certificate attainment.
* Effective written and verbal communication skills, literacy, numeracy, and IT skills to at least Level 1 Maths and English.
* Basic IT skills.

* Experience of working in a health or social care environment.
