About the Role

Product Engineering at JLR is centred on innovation and creativity. From advanced driver assistance systems to developing the future of electric propulsion, the opportunities to create exceptional experiences for the future of motoring are wide-range. You'll work alongside industry experts to drive product strategy, manage programs, analyse performance, and lead transformation initiatives. Exceptional careers that bring world-renowned vehicles to life start here. Come and join JLR as a Vehicle Safety Laboratories – Test Engineer, working at the heart of our Vehicle Safety Test Laboratory. This team plays a critical role in ensuring JLR vehicles meet internal requirements and global regulatory standards, supporting the delivery of safe, high-quality vehicles for markets worldwide. The work is practical, structured and technically focused, offering the opportunity to contribute directly to vehicle development and approval. Based in Gaydon, the role involves arranging and conducting component, system and full-vehicle tests to support development, CAE and homologation activities. You'll work with a wide range of quasi-static and dynamic test rigs, assessing systems such as pedestrian impact, interior head impact, seats, body and chassis structures, restraints, sensing systems and climatic airbag testing. The position also includes analysing test results, producing clear sign-off reports, and working closely with Safety Delivery teams, Technical Centres and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

* Work closely with Technical Centres, Safety Delivery teams and the team leader to define testing requirements and deliver high-quality test services.
* Create, manage and deliver robust test timing plans, ensuring alignment with programme milestones and responding effectively to changing priorities.
* Carry out component, system and full-vehicle testing in strict accordance with internal procedures and external regulatory standards.
* Represent the department and JLR at external meetings, technical forums and working groups as required.
* Produce clear, accurate and timely sign-off documentation to support homologation and regulatory approval activities.
* Design, adapt and modify test rigs and fixtures to meet new legislation, updated test protocols and evolving programme needs.

Working Hours

Two working patterns are available: a standard Monday to Friday day role, and a double day shift pattern (Approx Monday to Thursday 6am‑2pm / 2pm‑10pm, Friday 6am‑12pm / 12pm – 6pm). The shift pattern attracts a 16.6% shift allowance.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have a strong mix of experience, recognised training, and capabilities such as:

* Background in Mechanical Engineering with a strong grasp of core engineering principles and fundamentals.
* Sound knowledge of instrumentation, including correct application, setup and principles of operation.
* Proven experience working in a test laboratory environment, ideally within safety, durability or development testing.
* Ability to identify system and component failure modes and define further investigative work or revised test approaches to support design improvements.
* Strong communication and presentation skills, with the confidence to engage effectively across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
* A self-motivated, flexible team player with a clear focus on delivering a high-quality, reliable testing service.
* Flexible approach to working hours, including willingness to support.

At JLR, hybrid working is a voluntary, non-contractual arrangement providing employees more choice and flexibility around how, when and where they work. Some roles require more on-site work, but details of this can be discussed with the hiring manager during the interview stage. We work hard to nurture a culture that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We understand candidates may require reasonable adjustments during the recruitment process. Please discuss these with your recruiter so we can accommodate your needs.
