Overview
Band 8 - Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychologist opportunity to join a developing new service aimed at improving the well-being and psychological functioning of young people at Oakhill STC. The service provides weekly individual and group therapy sessions to young people aged 12 to 18 years with an offending history. You will utilise a variety of psychological interventions including the SECURE STAIRS framework.
Responsibilities
* Provide specialist psychological assessments of children and young people referred to the teams based upon the appropriate use, interpretation, and integration of complex data from a variety of sources
* Communicate highly complex information and diagnostic outcomes to parents/carers, young people, and other professionals in a sensitive manner
* Participate in assessments of children in care wherever indicated
* Develop psychological formulations of presenting problems or situations that integrate information from assessments within a coherent framework that draws upon psychological theory and evidence, incorporating interpersonal, societal, cultural and biological factors
* Develop and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of the child or young person, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of their problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy, across the full range of environmental settings
* Be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for children/young people, their families, carers, teachers, or support workers, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and maintaining provisional hypotheses
* Evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors
* Support transitions of children in care to and from inpatient settings, inter-placement transitions and to adult mental health services by means of multiagency care planning
* Be an active member of the multidisciplinary team, attending MDT meetings and providing advice and support
* Engage in links with other parts of CAMHS, Primary Care, Social Services and relevant agencies
* Maintain knowledge of child protection procedures and ensure training in this area for assistant psychologists in the team
* Develop skills in professional post-graduate teaching, training and supervision, and provide supervision to other MDT staff as appropriate
* Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance, and consultation to other professionals contributing to shared formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans
* Assess newly allocated cases and formulate appropriate treatment plans in collaboration with colleagues in other disciplines
* Complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and routine outcome monitoring of clinical work
Qualifications
* Must hold a Doctoral degree in Psychology (Clinical, Educational, or Child Psychology preferred)
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Practitioner Psychologist
* Experience of Safeguarding Children framework
* Experience in multi-disciplinary teaching
* Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team
* Minimum of 2 years experience in therapeutic service
* Minimum of 2 years experience in Health and Social Care
* Minimum of 2 years experience working with children and young people
