Overview
We’re looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the busy Operations & Maintenance team at Portsmouth Naval Base. This is a varied and hands-on role where you’ll play a vital part in keeping the base running safely and efficiently.
Responsibilities
* Carrying out planned and reactive maintenance on a range of equipment – from pumps, steam and boiler systems to hoists, winches, saws, grinders, and other workshop machinery.
* Supporting the Boiler House team with the safe running and upkeep of the steam plant.
* Fault-finding, repairs and testing to keep systems safe, reliable, and fully compliant.
* Using mobile systems to manage and complete work orders.
* Working both independently and as part of a close-knit team to meet operational KPIs.
* Occasionally providing on-call support for harbour radar and critical systems.
Qualifications & Experience
* Completed a mechanical apprenticeship or have proven experience and knowledge in mechanical theory and principles.
* Gained or be working towards industry accredited qualifications such as NVQ, City & Guilds, Gas Safe, Steam accreditation.
* Competence in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment.
* Hands-on experience of carrying out mechanical maintenance, fault finding, rectification and reporting.
* Familiarity with technical specifications and safe systems of work.
* Ability to work under pressure while maintaining efficiency and accuracy.
* Knowledge and application of Health and Safety best practice.
* IT literacy and confidence using mobile maintenance systems.

* Minimum NVQ Level 3 in a mechanical discipline.
