Job Title: School Librarian Salary: Band 3 (Professional), Scale Point 1-3, £30,138 - £31,742 FTE Hours: Full Time 37.5 hours, permanent, Term Time 5 INSET days Department: Support Staff Line Manager: Whole School Literacy Lead Conditions of Service: United Learning Contract Job Purpose Under the direction of the Whole School Literacy Lead, take a lead role within the school to working as School Librarian with literacy intervention to address needs of students who need particular help to overcome barriers to learning. Key Responsibilities To take a lead role in managing the School Library as a resource base, general upkeep including displays To prepare and work with Literacy Lead to establish Library Policy and development plan To work with small groups of students as identified for literacy intervention To develop and maintain resources related to reading (e.g., Library, Accelerated Reader) so that they are suitable and readily accessible to all students at their personal level of development. Catalogue and manage stock, availability, costs, and materials through Finance. To manage the supervision of students using School Library before, at lunch and after school Register and record student attendance in Intervention Lessons To undertake comprehensive assessments of students to determine those in need of particular help. To be responsible for the implementation of Literacy Intervention programmes To promote resources to staff and students through organisations of book weeks/ visits/ newsletter/ key dates e.g., World Book Day etc To implement local/ national literacy strategies and make effective use of learning activities. Establish productive working relationships with students, acting as a role model.Supporting with homework sessions and Y6 taster sessions Challenge and motivate students, promote, and reinforce self-esteem. To contribute to INSET programme for whole school focus on literacy. Support for Teachers Support students’ access to learning using appropriate strategies, resources etc. Work with Literacy Lead in planning, evaluating, and adjusting learning activities as appropriate. Monitor and evaluate student’s responses and progress against action plans through observation and planned recording. Provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required, to other staff on student’s achievements, progress, and other matters, ensuring availability of appropriate evidence. Manage record keeping systems and processes Establish constructive relationship with families, exchanging information, facilitating their support for their child’ attendance, access, learning and supporting home to school community links. Administration support to Whole School Literacy Lead Support for the Pupils Encouraging pupils to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all pupils in activities. Promoting independence and employing strategies to recognise and reward achievement. Establish constructive relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs. Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all pupils. Encourage pupils to interact with others and engage in activities led by the teacher. Set challenging and demanding expectations and promote self-esteem and independence. Support for the Curriculum Lead and implement literacy intervention programmes, according to student needs. Actively seek and utilise a range of activities, courses, organisations, and individuals to provide literacy support to broaden and enrich student learning. Support for School Attending and participating in school meetings and training, e.g., school and department meetings, training days Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, and security, confidentially and data protection, reporting all concerns to an appropriate person. Be aware of and support differences and ensure all students have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop Contribute to the overall ethos/work/aims of the school Establish constructive relationships and communicate with other agencies/ professionals, in liaison with the teacher, to support achievement and progress of students Recognise own strengths and areas of expertise and use these to advise and support others Undertake planned supervision of students out of hours learning activities Supervise students on visits, trips and out of school activities as required Other tasks and duties appropriate to the post agreed with Line Manager and/ or Principal The role will be required to safeguard and promote the welfare of children and young people, plus follow the school policies and staff code of conduct.
