CNWL NHS Foundation Trust (Milton Keynes) are delighted to offer suitable applicants an exciting opportunity to develop their career by undertaking the Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) Health Visiting Course. This is run as a joint programme with Northampton University. The course is split between clinical practice and University attendance. Mileage for practice days and university attendance will be covered from the Milton Keynes 0-19 Team base.
This is an exciting time for Health Visiting in Milton Keynes as we look to the future and develop services designed to meet the needs of our diverse and growing population. We work as an integrated 0-19 service implementing new ways of working to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families in Milton Keynes.
Course details and requirements
Applicants must be Registered Nurses or Midwives with a current NMC registration and have an interest in addressing the health needs of children and families. The course is run at Post Graduate Diploma (Level 7). Applicants must also be holders of a valid driving licence and have access and use of a car for the duration of the training.

Programme and role
The post of Student Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) is a development post building on existing knowledge, skills and competencies as a qualified nurse/midwife to achieve a higher level of practice resulting in an academic qualification as well as a recordable/registerable qualification with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

The programme will enable SCPHN students to learn and work towards gaining the standards of proficiency for entry into the NMC register as Specialist Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN). In collaboration with Northampton University the Practice Assessor and Practice Supervisor, ensure suitable learning environments and create opportunities which will enable the student to develop knowledge, skills and competencies to take on the role of a qualified SCPHN within Health Visiting by the end of the programme.

Once qualified, there is an expectation that you will work for CNWL in a substantive post (subject to availability). We currently offer a 6% recruitment and retention premium for substantive Health Visitors (terms and conditions apply, further information given at interview).
Core responsibilities (summary)
The fundamental responsibilities of the post holder are to attain the academic credentials and the clinical skills required to practice as an NMC registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse. The following summary is not exhaustive:
* Fulfil the requirements of the SCPHN programme by attending university course dates and practice placement days in accordance with University regulations and successful completion of the course
* With the support of the Practice Assessor & Practice Supervisor, link the theoretical knowledge gained through the university programme to the practice situation
* Demonstrate an understanding of current and emerging national, regional and local healthcare legislation, policies and guidelines as they pertain to the chosen pathway
* Develop/build on skills of individual caseload management and leadership/management skills within a team, taking into consideration the abilities of skill mix
* Work within University regulations pertaining to academic work and student conduct
* Work within employing organisation policies as they pertain to the relevant clinical setting
* Work within employing organisation policies relating to employee responsibilities
* Proactively seek learning opportunities and be creative, adaptable and innovative in response to complex and challenging situations
