Description of duties
Overall purpose
To provide a high standard of consultancy, training, examination and certification services in various non‑destructive testing and materials evaluation methods in which the post holder is qualified.
Key performance areas
* Deliver high‑quality Level 3 consultancy services to ensure clients’ NDT facilities comply with industry standards they are required to work in accordance with by conducting regular on‑site audits and maintaining frequent communication. Document audit findings and deliver clear, concise audit reports with recommendations for clients.
* Deliver training of a high calibre to students in various NDT and materials evaluation methods aligned with certification schemes such as SNT‑TC‑1A, EN 4179 / NAS 410 or PCN, as required.
* Take responsibility for and control the quality of master sample reports used in examinations. Ensure the performance of exam samples is monitored and implement improvements where necessary.
* Mark examinations with consistency and integrity across the methods and certification schemes certified in, when authorised to do so by the certification body i.e., PCN.
* Maintain effective client relationships, maximising revenue and generating opportunities through new business development.
* Develop and approve NDT procedures, written practices, and NDT techniques, to a high standard that comply with clients’ prime manufacturers or required standards.
* Respond promptly and professionally to clients’ NDT consultancy and training related enquiries via telephone, email, and onsite visits.
* Develop programmes of learning activities, including planning, preparing, delivering, and researching training sessions at Argyll Ruane or client facilities in the UK and abroad.
* Assess students’ work in accordance with industry standards and guidelines, providing constructive feedback on their performance to support their learning and development.
* Control the examination process for employer‑based certification schemes by writing exam questions, invigilation and marking.
* Maintain accurate records of training for all students, as required, and ensure that all personal certifications are kept up to date.
* Collaborate with internal and external specialist NDT professionals to integrate contemporary practices and insights into training content for the methods taught.
* Attend relevant training courses as required to enhance qualifications/certifications and continuously improve training abilities.
* Ensure adequate self‑development and training/cross‑training is undertaken to fulfil the role and responsibilities, share knowledge with team members and contribute to team development.
* Maintain effective communication across departments, presenting technical feedback in a clear, understandable manner tailored to the recipient.
Key attributes / Person specification
* Demonstrates extensive knowledge of the subject area with substantial industrial NDT experience, holding a minimum of two EN 4179/NAS 410 NDT Level 3 method qualifications (Preferably one qualification being volumetric).
* Proven ability to deliver effective solutions to clients’ NDT challenges and assuming full technical responsibility for clients’ NDT facilities.
* Displays flexibility, with a strong commitment to multi‑tasking as part of a team and contributing to company objectives.
* Highly motivated to achieve results while upholding the highest standards of professionalism, honesty, and integrity.
* Excellent organisational and time‑management skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet competing deadlines effectively.
* Skilled in effectively working with diverse student groups, possessing excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify and teach complex physics and mathematical NDT concepts and techniques.
* Good written skills to produce coursework and training materials, as well as clients’ NDT procedures, written practices, techniques, and audit reports.
* Creative skills to plan and deliver lessons in a professional, positive, and engaging manner.
* Willingness to train and upgrade personal certifications to ASNT NDT Level III, EN 4179/NAS 410 Level 3 or PCN Level 3, as well as learn new methods as required.
* E‑literate and competent in developing, administering, and using PC and associated networks and systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Excel) and accounting packages to gather, process and share information effectively.
* Must hold a full clean UK driving licence.
* Candidates must have the right to work in the UK without the need for current or future visa sponsorship.
Additional
* Must be willing and able to undertake a reasonable amount of travel as required, both national and international, with overnight stays.
* Expected to take responsibility for their self‑development on a continuous basis including attending relevant training in all forms of delivery.
* Must be willing to undertake some cross‑training with other posts within the department to ensure commonality of procedures and flexibility to cater for high workload periods.
