Overview
Ferguson Transport & Shipping have an opportunity for an HGV Apprentice Driver, based in Corpach, Fort William.
The successful applicant will work alongside our current team whilst completing a Modern Apprenticeship in Driving Goods Vehicles.
Responsibilities
Initial duties: washing lorries, trailers and other plant. Progressing to work with our Shunter Operators, learning forklift operations, trailer movements and general yard duties. As a Shunter Operator, you will drive works vehicles with a variety of attachments; ensure safe and secure loading and unloading of HGV trailers; assist HGV Drivers; and move trailers around site using a Terberg unit, keeping the yards and loading areas functioning efficiently. This will help establish the essential skills for becoming an HGV Driver and provide insight into the requirements of the role.
Progression and training: Following a period of shunting duties, training will begin for the Modern Apprenticeship. During which support will be given to obtain the required HGV medical, provisional licence and theory tests. This is a progressive training position where a car licence is required. It is expected to take around 6-12 months to complete before moving on to the role of HGV Driver.
