Working as part of our Global Risk & Compliance Department, the Conflicts & Ethics Team is responsible for analysing all new clients and matters to identify and resolve legal and commercial "conflicts of interest".
The role is ideally suited to an individual with a clear and confident communication style, and a desire to work collaboratively with a dynamic and motivated team. The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail and an interest in current affairs. A legal qualification is not essential, but problem solving and professionalism are key.
Your Glasgow-based team will join colleagues across Brisbane, London, Sydney, and New Zealand, working together to provide conflicts clearance as our partners and clients pursue the most exciting deals globally.
Hours of work:
37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working 7.5 hours daily, between 06:00 - 21:00, with a flexible working pattern.
Core hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm, with flexibility required to support business needs.
Main responsibilities
Business as usual:
* Develop and maintain knowledge of the rules of professional conduct applicable in the UK and other countries where Ashurst lawyers practice.
* Use research skills to identify and verify clients, third parties, and assets involved in new business requests.
* Understand legal transactions to determine relationships between parties; liaise with partners and lawyers if in doubt.
* Analyze information in the firm's conflict management systems and databases to identify potential conflicts of interest.
* Collaborate with team members and Senior Management to resolve legal and commercial conflicts.
* Record detailed phone notes, legal and commercial analyses to serve as compliance records for insurers, regulators, and management.
* Maintain high data quality standards within the conflicts database.
Other tasks:
* Work across departments (Finance, HR, IT, Business Development) on projects and problem-solving.
* Engage in continuous professional development and planned career growth.
* Assist in preparing and delivering training and compliance education sessions.
Risk and Control: Ensure all activities comply with regulatory requirements and internal policies.

* Experience in a compliance department within a law firm or large corporation is essential; conflicts experience is preferred but not mandatory.
