Role: Teaching Assistant (SEMH Support) Location: Basingstoke Setting: Short Stay SEMH Provision (Ages 11 to 16) Start Date: September Pay: £14.25 per hour About the Setting This specialist short-stay provision supports students aged 11 to 16 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who are currently unable to access mainstream education. Placements are short-term and focused on stabilisation, re-engagement, and successful transitions back into school. The environment is structured and nurturing, with small class sizes, clear routines, and a strong focus on consistency and positive relationships. The Role As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students both in and out of the classroom, with a strong emphasis on behaviour support, emotional regulation, and relationship building. You will work closely with teaching and pastoral staff to help students feel safe, engaged, and ready to learn. Key Responsibilities • Support students 1 to 1 and in small groups • Help manage behaviour using calm, consistent strategies • Support emotional regulation and engagement in learning • Provide support during lessons, transitions, and breaks • Build positive and trusting relationships with students • Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive environment What We’re Looking For • Experience working with young people in education, care, or similar settings • Strong behaviour management and communication skills • Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach • Ability to set clear boundaries while remaining empathetic • Full-time availability from September SEMH experience is beneficial but not essential.
