What skills and experience we're looking for
1. hold an appropriate degree level qualification and a recognised secondary age range teaching qualification.
2. be able to teach to GCSE level.
3. have an understanding of the learning needs of less able students and be able to respond to them.
4. appreciate the needs of more able students and teach in a manner which acknowledges the need for differentiation and extension.
5. be a competent and enthusiastic communicator of the subject to adults and students.
6. be aware of and responsive to current teaching developments within the subject area.
7. expect and be able to achieve appropriate standards of behaviour and discipline both within and outside the classroom.
8. work collaboratively with the Department and with other staff.
9. be willing to accept and respond positively to advice from subject and pastoral managers.
10. wish to contribute, possibly outside the subject specialism, in some way towards an activity which enriches the educational, social or cultural experiences of the students.
11. seek to establish/promote a successful professional career within the school.
12. be in sympathy with the ethos of the School and seek to uphold, develop and enhance the achievements and standards towards which the School works.
13. the ability to support pupils/respond to parents through fluent and accurately spoken English.
What the school offers its staff
P.E. at Nunnery Wood High School benefits from superb facilities including all weather pitches and national standard athletics track. Students enjoy P.E. at Nunnery Wood and the take up of extra-curricular and team sports is high and growing.
Dance is taught in a purpose built studio, performances take place in a theatre space with retractable seating for 300. The Performing Arts suite comprises a dance studio, drama studio, two music rooms and several practice spaces. A recording studio is being constructed. There is also a staff workroom.
Nunnery Wood High School is oversubscribed and enjoys a strong reputation in the region. Staff and students enjoy school life and staff voice extremely high levels of satisfaction with working conditions and leadership of the school. Staff enjoy many benefits including a slightly lighter timetable than is common and a school gym.
Recent Ofsted inspections describe both results and student behaviour as significant strengths. Our intake is broad, from the academically gifted to students requiring nurturing in numeracy and literacy.
