An exciting opportunity has arisen for two dynamic roles each offering full-time hours, perfect for those looking to take the next step in their career.

As a Safeguarding Lead you will play a vital role in promoting and ensuring the safety, protection and well-being of children, young people and adults at risk across our 10 Deepend Practices within Middlesbrough.

You will provide expert guidance, leadership and assurance on all safeguarding matters developing a culture of vigilance, responsibility and continuous improvement.


Main duties of the job

Provideleadership, management and support on safeguarding policy and practice withinour Deepend Practices

Beresponsible for ensuring that best practice guidelines are followed in relationto safeguarding, in line with national guidance, practice policy and localprocedures.

Supportall staff in ensuring that patients receive a high quality, safe and effectiveservice and act as a main point of contact and specialist lead for the widerteam and deepend practices in line with safeguarding needs and development.

Supportin the co-ordination and management of all Safeguarding systems within ourdeepend practices, liaising with individual practice leads.

Ensurepractice staff undertake mandatory and pertinent safeguarding training on aregular basis. Facilitate L2 and L3 face to face Children's Training Sessions

Beresponsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of systems to ensure practiceswithin deepend practices are represented at safeguarding conferences.

Beresponsible for ensuring the quality control of safeguarding procedures,conducting random file audits periodically to assess safeguarding children andadults at risk practice and record-keeping, action plan to address any gaps,and make recommendations to team.


About us

There are a total of 12 Deep End practices in Middlesbroughthe highest proportion of Deep End practices across the whole of the NENC ICBarea for any locality.

Eleven of the Deep End practices have agreed to collaborateand work together to deliver a more strategic and sustainable projectaddressing a key social determinant of health that all practices identify as ashared priority. The practices intend to pool the resources to deliver a singleproject improving the support and care for vulnerable adults and children withsafeguarding risks and concerns.

Between 2021-2024, Middlesbrough had the highest rate ofchildren on a child protection plan (CPP) in the whole of England for eachconsecutive year. Similarly, the rate of referrals for children in need (CIN)has consistently been the highest for England during this period.

Ensuring children grow up in a safe, secure and supportiveenvironment is key to reducing the impact of trauma and distress in early yearsand the subsequent impact on adult health and well being in later years.


Job responsibilities

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Ensuresafeguarding is embedded in all staff and volunteer recruitment processes.

Be available toall staff for advice / support around safeguarding children and adults atrisk issues.

Ensure all deependpractice staff have attended mandatory and pertinent safeguarding childrenand adults training.

Provide advice andguidance to all practice staff around safeguarding issues and assess andsupport staff to make referrals to the local safeguarding team.

Support to sendhigh quality written reports to key meetings pertaining to a family wherethere are concerns around a child, i.e. child protection case conferences,strategic planning meetings and pre-birth planning meetings.

To act as a singlepoint of contact for local safeguarding professionals, including havingoversight and coordination responsibilities for any meeting invitationsand attendance on behalf of deepend practices.

On behalf of deependpractices attend local safeguarding meetings including MARAC, MAPPA strategymeetings, child protection conferences, at risk adult meetings, rapidreview meetings and other relevant meetings.and similar forums as required and coordination information sharing andactions arising from these.

To maintainregular contact with local safeguarding services to ensure effectivecommunication and working practice.

To provide monthlysafeguarding supervision for all deepend practice staff members andprovide ad-hoc guidance on safeguarding cases as they arise. To facilitateMDT safeguarding meeting liaising with the wider health team including,maternity services and 0 19 teams

Attend suchmeetings alongside colleagues, where there is any significant differenceof opinion around preferred course of action or assessment of risk. Raisea professional challenge with outside agencies such as the local authorityif the situation were to arise

Investigate allsafeguarding issues which involve the death or serious injury of a child,where criminal charges have been brought against a client or where thereare safeguarding children or adult at risk concerns around a member ofstaff, volunteer or recovery mentor/broker,

Report anyallegations against staff to the Local Authority Designated Officer(LADO).

Undertake auditand regular quality control exercises, gathering information relating totrends and patterns, and relay to deepend practices.

Raise the profileof the safeguarding agenda within deepend practices ensuring safeguardingissues and case presentations are standing agenda items in all teammeetings.

Alongside theindividual practices safeguarding lead cascade learning and practiceguidance from national and local forums to all practice staff.

Liaise withindividual practices safeguarding lead to ensure risk and/or parentingcapacity assessments are conducted where clients are pregnant, have thecare of children or have substantial contact with children.

Ensure MentalCapacity principles are adhered to when working with adults at risk.

Develop asafeguarding flagging system with all practices, utilise SystmOne / EMISand ensure parity of information across systems.

Co-ordinatecomplex case review process across the deepend practices and represent thedeepend practices at complex case meetings.

Conduct randomfile audits periodically to assess safeguarding children and adults atrisk practice and record-keeping, action plan to address any gaps, andmake recommendations to team where relevant.

The deepend practices are focused on buildingrelationships with other local health and social care providers for the benefitof effective Primary Care service delivery to our patient population.

Recognisethe roles of other colleagues within the practices and in other organisationsand their role to patient care.

Demonstrateuse of appropriate communication to gain the co-operation of relevantstakeholders (including patients, senior and peer colleagues, and otherprofessionals, other NHS/private organisations e.g. ICBs).

Activelywork toward developing and maintaining effective working relationships bothwithin and outside the practice, PCNs and locality.

Health and Safety

Thepost-holder must comply at all times with the Practice at which they areworking in Health and Safety policies, in particular by following agreed safeworking procedures and reporting incidents using the organisations IncidentReporting System.

Person Specification


Skills and Aptitudes

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Understanding of issues surrounding risk and risk management
* Ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
* Ability to maintain accurate and detailed case records within given guidelines
* Ability to analyse data, cross referencing with other data sources and intelligence in order to offer conclusions
* A demonstrable understanding of the need for, and ability to, deliver high quality services.
* Show commitment to facilitating positive outcomes for patients.
* Work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
* Completed clinical audits within a service
* Has received training (either formal or through experience) and carried out risk assessments within the scope of practice


Qualifications

* Professional Qualification in:
* Social Work
* Health Visitor
* School Nurse
* Nursing/Midwifery
* Access to own transport.
* Root Cause Analysis Training.


Experience

* Knowledge of: Care Act, Children Act, Mental Capacity Act, Section 11 requirements.
* Knowledge and understanding of policies related to the safeguarding of children and vulnerable adults and how these influence practice
* Experience of working in Primary Care services,
* Experience in physical / mental health and social inclusion
