Job Purpose
The post holder will continue to be responsible for effectively organising, coordinating, and managing all inpatient areas to ensure the highest standard of safe, effective, and person‑centred care at all times.
Responsibilities
* Respond to all clinical obstetric and neonatal emergencies within the hospital.
* Support and work alongside medical colleagues in decision making, planning, and implementing tailored care packages.
* Demonstrate significant autonomy in coordinating and managing care provision within inpatient areas.
* At night and on weekends, extend responsibility to cover the role of SCM, Community & Neonatal Coordinator, ensuring care is effective, safe, and person‑centred through effective use of resources including bank staff.
* Plan, assess, develop, implement, and evaluate planned programmes of care.
* Act as an advocate for women and their families and promote normality throughout pregnancy, labour, postnatal period, and neonatal care.
* Provide effective clinical leadership, acting as a role model for all staff.
* Provide leadership for all midwifery staff and other multidisciplinary team members within the clinical area, maintaining clinical and professional competence and credibility.
Qualifications
* Registered Midwife with valid NMC registration.
* Educated to, working toward, or operating at degree level.
* Post‑graduate expertise within the specialty/area of practice that demonstrates breadth of knowledge required to lead safety effectively and efficiently.
* Comprehensive knowledge of clinical guidelines and standards within the specialty.
* Specialist knowledge and experience of relevant conditions, pathology, policies, and procedures associated with the specialty/area of practice, ensuring expertise can be utilised to deliver leadership.

This role is subject to the 2026 Agenda for Change full‑time working week which will reduce from 37 hours to 36 hours, with part‑time hours reduced on a pro‑rata basis and a corresponding increase in hourly rate to keep overall pay unchanged.
