Job Purpose
This is a Post-doctoral role in Creative Writing at the School of Critical Studies. The successful candidate will undertake research of international excellence, contribute to knowledge exchange activities related to the discipline, participate in learning and teaching on designated programmes, and undertake administration and service activities in line with the School/College’s strategic objectives.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
1. Develop and progress individual or joint research projects of international standard in the subject area, with support from a mentor as required.
2. Publish high-quality creative and/or critical research, identify potential funding sources, and contribute to or lead funding applications to develop the research profile of the School and College.
3. Contribute to the planning, organisation, and delivery of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching, including responsibilities as course coordinator.
4. Assist in the ongoing development and design of the curriculum to support a research-led and scholarly approach to student learning and assessment.
5. Participate in examination and assessment processes, providing effective and timely feedback to support student learning.
6. Contribute to the development of theory and practice within the subject area.
7. Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student projects and contribute to postgraduate research student supervision and training.
8. Take on administrative or management roles within the subject/School as assigned by the Head of School.
9. Engage in continuing professional development activities.
10. Undertake any other duties as required by the Head of School.
11. Contribute to enhancing the University’s international profile in line with the University’s Strategic Plan, World Changers Together.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Knowledge/Qualifications
* Essential: A PhD or equivalent professional/teaching experience in a related role.
* Sufficient knowledge of creative writing and teaching methods.
* Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
* A developing research output record aligned with the School’s objectives.
* Knowledge of relevant policies, practices, and procedures, including external awareness.
* Specialist understanding in creative writing and ability to inspire students.
Skills
* Essential: Ability to work independently and contribute to research and teaching activities.
* Effective organisational skills for managing time and priorities.
Experience
* Essential: Experience in planning and executing work within professional guidelines, commitment to open research, supporting colleagues’ career development.
* Desirable: Teaching at postgraduate level, administrative experience in higher education.
Terms and Conditions
Salary: Grade 7, £39,347 - £44,263 per annum. Full-time, open-ended position.
