If appointed, you will have the opportunity to work in a welcoming and forward-thinking department. The posts commence on 05/08/26. The purpose of this post is to provide increased exposure to critically ill patients ahead of applications to national Anaesthetics, Acute Care Common Stem, or Higher Specialty training programmes. Successful candidates will have opportunities to develop and strengthen their portfolios, enhancing their competitiveness for future recruitment cycles. Applications will be accepted from those who have completed or are expecting to complete foundation training by time of appointment and wish to explore a career in critical care. Doctors in this role will participate in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings, and the assessment of patients referred to Critical Care from both the Emergency Department and inpatient wards. The post includes outofhours duties on the Critical Care rota at UHC, as well as scheduled daytime sessions across the Critical Care units at UHC and UHA. These sessions will be undertaken alongside a clinician with advanced airway skills. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to spend a proportion of their development time in the Department of Anaesthesia if this is one of their identified development needs. The successful applicants will have a dedicated Educational Supervisor and will be encouraged to keep a portfolio to document their critical care progression. They will be expected to participate in audit, education and quality improvement projects within the departments. Access to support for projects is available within the following areas of interest: Treatment Escalation Planning Recovery after Intensive Care Programme (INSPIRE) Paediatric Anaesthesia Recruitment to National Research Programmes Organ Donation and End of Life Care Transfer Medicine Research including Associate PI scheme Regional Anaesthesia Acute Pain Management Vascular Access Perioperative Medicine Point of Care Ultrasound The role of Clinical Development Fellow allows successful applicants to dedicate 4-8 hours per week to development projects whether this be in education and teaching, research, quality improvement or leadership. CDFs will be supported by the Director of Medical Education in their area on interest. This will include access to a study budget of £1250 per annum pro rata. The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 12 months (commencing 5th August 2026. A 50% pay supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and emergency duty commitments and will be based on a salary range of £45,504 - £71,550. The posts are not recognised for training. Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice. We are also able to offer a Clinical Teaching Fellow post in Critical Care. The Clinical Teaching Fellow will focus on the organisation, development and provision of teaching to undergraduate medical students from the University of Glasgow. This post will not contribute to the out-of-hours rota and is therefore unbanded. This post is suited to trainees who have satisfactorily completed foundation training or can demonstrate equivalent competencies and wish to develop skills in medical education.
