Role Overview
As Assistant Gardener, you will work with a team of five gardeners to deliver daily care of the garden, maintain high presentation standards, and contribute to the delivery of projects. The role includes developing, improving and looking after the garden across the 55‑acre estate, including the Walled Garden, Parterre and Wilderness.
Daily Responsibilities
* Assist with planting and maintaining shrubs, borders, and other plantings
* Mulch, prune hedges, maintain lawn and hay beds, manage compost bays
* Use tractors, hedge trimmers and pedestrian mowers, with training provided
* Collaborate with volunteers and permanent staff
* Engage with the public, answering questions and explaining garden work

About This Setting
The gardens are a National Trust property covering 55 acres, featuring a historic Walled Garden, ornamental Parterre and a woodland wilderness area. You will work under the guidance of the Head Gardener and in partnership with the public and volunteers.
