As an HSE Site Lead, you will be responsible for leading, implementing and continuously improving all Health, Safety and Environmental activities across the Elton site. This is a senior leadership role responsible for driving operational safety performance within a complex, high-hazard manufacturing environment.
Working closely with the H&S Compliance & Assurance Manager and the Site Leadership Team, you will ensure full compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements while embedding the Zero Harm strategy across all operations. You will act as the primary HSE authority on site, providing visible leadership, technical expertise and strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and deliver the site HSE strategy aligned with the Zero Harm programme and corporate objectives.
* Act as the senior HSE authority on site, influencing operational leaders and key decision-making.
* Ensure compliance with UK HSE legislation and ISO management systems (ISO 45001, 14001 and 50001).
* Own the site HSE management system, including regulatory engagement and contractor HSE performance.
* Drive major hazard risk management, ensuring robust controls for high-risk operations.
* Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective action programmes.
* Use performance data and KPIs to drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental performance.
* Lead, coach and develop the site HSE team, building strong safety capability across the organisation.
* Champion a visible, proactive safety culture across all operational areas.
Key Requirements:
* NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (NVQ Level 6 or MSc Occupational Health & Safety also acceptable)
* 7+ years' experience in senior HSE leadership roles
* Experience within large, complex operational environments (500+ employees or equivalent scale)
* Proven experience leading and developing HSE teams
* Background in high-hazard industries, such as:
* Heavy manufacturing
* Chemicals or process industries
* Energy or utilities
* COMAH-regulated environments
* Strong knowledge of UK HSE legislation and regulatory frameworks
* Experience with major hazard management and process safety
* Understanding of COMAH, DSEAR and Process Safety Management principles
* Proven track record of driving HSE performance improvement and cultural change
