Job Summary Bridge Cottage Surgery is recruiting a salaried GP for part or full‑time. The practice is a large semi‑rural training clinic in Welwyn, Hertfordshire, with a mixed primary healthcare team.
Responsibilities
Undertake surgery consultations, telephone consultations and patient queries, including home visits.
Check and sign repeat prescriptions and handle paperwork and correspondence promptly.
Make professional, autonomous decisions regarding presenting problems, whether self‑referrals or referrals from other healthcare workers.
Assess health‑care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
Develop care plans in line with current disease‑management protocols.
Provide counselling and health education to patients and carers.
Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
Collect data for audit purposes.
Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions, avoiding handwritten prescriptions whenever possible.
Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) when clinically appropriate.
Other Responsibilities Within the Organisation
Comply with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, including prescribing, confidentiality, data protection and health and safety.
Commit to lifelong learning and audit to ensure evidence‑based best practice.
Contribute to evaluation, audit and clinical standard setting within the organisation.
Assist in developing computer‑based patient records and summarising patient data using Read‑Coding.
Attend training and events organised by the practice or other agencies where appropriate.
Qualifications and Experience
Post‑graduate qualification in General Practice and completion of vocational training.
Full registration with the GMC and a recognised medical defence organisation.
Registered and approved on the Medical Performers List.
Enhanced DBS check required before employment.
Excellent clinical, communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to contribute to multi‑professional working and to work well within the practice team.
Evidence of accountability and experience working with Partners towards QOF, PCN and national services.
Understanding of the principles of clinical audit.
Knowledge of IT clinical systems (SystmOne) (desirable).
Experience in end‑of‑life care for patients (desirable).
