Join the Birmingham Women’s Hospital Homebirth Team as a Senior Maternity Support Worker. This role focuses on providing high‑quality, personalised care to women and families who choose to give birth at home, working closely with midwives to ensure safe and positive experiences.
Key Responsibilities
* Support midwives during antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal periods.
* Assist with clinical observations, documentation and preparation of equipment for homebirths.
* Provide emotional and practical support to women and families in their own homes.
* Promote safe practice and uphold professional standards in line with Trust policies.
* Maintain Level 2 qualification in Maths and English.
* Hold a Care Certificate.
* Communicate effectively and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
* Work flexibly, including on‑call duties.
* Apply previous experience in maternity or community care settings.
* Understand homebirth pathways and safeguarding procedures.
Qualifications
* GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or above (or equivalent).
* Care Certificate (or willing to complete within 3 months).
* Assistant Practitioner Foundation Degree – Maternity Pathway or Level 5 Foundation Degree in Health & Care.
* Relevant experience in maternity or community care.
Skills and Experience
* Excellent numeracy and literacy skills; ability to read, write and speak English.
* Organise and prioritise workload with delegated responsibilities.
* Effective written, verbal and non‑verbal communication with patients, relatives, carers and multidisciplinary teams.
* Apply safeguarding, mental capacity and health & safety principles.
* Work under pressure, manage unpredictable workloads and demonstrate resilience.
* Participate in reflective practice and clinical supervision.
* Support, supervise and mentor nursing associate students, other learners and health care support workers.
* Demonstrate competence in clinical skills relevant to the scope of practice.
