Senior DevOps Engineers are responsible for the design, development, implementation, ongoing support and maintenance of SPWs AWS infrastructure and associated systems.
Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire
Type: Fixed Term Contract - to cover maternity leave approximately 12 months
Salary: £50,395 to £55,434
Key Responsibilities
1. The role focuses on the development, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the core AWS Infrastructure and associated systems within SPW.
Design and Development of Solutions
* Design of new solutions in conjunction with the Technology Architects and responsible for taking through appropriate governance and approval channels
* Where appropriate, select new components/systems in line with requirements
* Ensure solutions minimise manual intervention and are automated wherever possible
Implementation
* Work with the Change, Application and Business teams to implement and maintain reliable platform services at SPW
* Work closely with technical and support teams and colleagues across CTO, SPW and 3rd parties to ensure solutions are documented and observable
* Design and implement shared platform services such as CI/CD pipelines to support build and deployment of other CTO teams
* Take a proactive approach to minimising outage
* Hands-on engineering skills in core technical stack: TypeScript, Python, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Terraform, AWS, DataDog
* Understand how to build AWS infrastructure that is secure, scalable, and resilient
Support
* Provide escalation support in conjunction with first- and second-line teams
* Design and implement processes for supportability, availability, recoverability, security, and documentation of systems
* Stay updated with industry frameworks and best practices
* Ensure compliance with SPW standards and policies
* Maintain the AWS platform's health and efficiency
Supplier Management
* Manage relationships with Cloud Engineering and Infrastructure suppliers
* Collaborate to introduce new features to the estate
* Support licensing and contract renewal processes
Qualifications & Skills
* Experience designing, building, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure, especially AWS
* Practical knowledge of AWS components: Lambda, Step Functions, VPCs, Transit Gateways, Network Firewall, CloudWAN, Aurora Serverless, IAM
* Experience with CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code, Terraform
* Understanding of DevSecOps and security best practices
* Ability to manage tasks independently within Agile/traditional environments
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
* Attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
